Karachi, a major city in Pakistan, has seen an 11% increase in street crimes, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP). In 2023, over 90,000 street crimes were reported, compared to 80,000 in 2022.

The HRCP report highlighted that 134 people were killed and 100 injured while resisting robberies and other incidents. Additionally, more than 59,000 motorcycles and 2,336 vehicles were stolen in 2023.

Concerns were raised about the overall law and order situation in Sindh province, with 3,296 police encounters recorded in 2023, the highest in a year.

In response, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, has launched a strategic crackdown and formed a specialized force to combat criminals. He held a high-level meeting with top police officers and assigned 67 officers to handle critical cases.

Karachi has also been ranked as the second-riskiest city for tourists, with a score of 93.12 out of 100, according to a July 11 Forbes Adviser list. The city faces high risks from crime, violence, terrorist threats, natural disasters, and economic vulnerabilities.

Forbes Adviser compared 60 international cities across seven key metrics to determine the most and least risky cities for tourists. Karachi has frequently appeared on lists of ‘unlivable’ cities.
