In Hajipur, Bihar, nine Kanwariyas lost their lives and several others were injured when their DJ-mounted trolley came into contact with a high-voltage wire. According to Om Prakash, Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Hajipur, the height of the vehicle was too high and it touched a high-tension wire, causing the accident. Eight devotees died on the spot, and one died during treatment in the hospital.

The victims, from Sultanpur village, were on their way to Pahelaja Ghat in Saran to perform a ritual at Sonpur Baba Haiharnath. Further investigation is underway.

Earlier on July 29, a similar accident occurred in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district, where two Kanwariyas died and five others were injured after a container truck hit their tractor-trolley. The accident happened near Deori village on National Highway 44.

Kanwariyas are devotees of Lord Shiva who collect holy water from places like Haridwar, Gaumukh, and Gangotri in Uttarakhand, and Sultanganj in Bihar during the Sawan month. This water is then used to worship Lord Shiva.
