Court Takes Action on Parliament Security Breach: Six Accused Charged
The Patiala House Court in New Delhi has acknowledged the charge sheet filed by Delhi Police against six individuals accused of a security breach at the Parliament. The accused, including Manoranjan D, Sagar Sharma, Amol Dhanraj Shinde, Neelam Ranolia, Lalit Jha, and Mahesh Kumawat, are charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The Additional Sessions Judge, Dr. Hardeep Kaur, took cognisance of the charge sheet and directed the Delhi Police to provide hard copies to the accused within a week. The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 9.
Earlier, on June 7, Delhi Police filed a 1000-page charge sheet against the six accused. The Special Cell of Delhi Police also submitted a supplementary charge sheet on July 15 after obtaining the necessary sanctions for prosecution under UAPA.
Delhi LG VK Saxena granted prosecution sanction against the accused for allegedly attacking the Parliament on December 13, 2023. The Review Committee also found sufficient evidence to charge the accused under UAPA.
The case was initially registered at the Parliament Street Police Station and later transferred to the Counter Intelligence Unit of the PS Special Cell, New Delhi. All six accused are currently in judicial custody.
