TMC Leaders Sushmita Dev and Saket Gokhale Support Disaster-Affected Communities in Wayanad
All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders Sushmita Dev and Saket Gokhale visited Wayanad, Kerala, to offer support to communities affected by recent disasters. They met with injured individuals in hospitals, providing assurance and support.
Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan highlighted the ongoing rescue and relief efforts, noting that not all bodies have been recovered yet. He praised the coordination between the central and state governments, with the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coastal Guards, and NDRF quickly arriving at the scene to assist.
Governor Khan mentioned that 10,000 people are currently living in relief camps and emphasized the need for rehabilitation once the emergency is over. He also noted that the Prime Minister had instructed all central government agencies, particularly the defense forces, to respond immediately to the disaster.
In a coordinated effort, the Indian Coast Guard, Army, and Air Force successfully rescued three individuals stranded at Soochipara Waterfalls. The rescue operation involved both ground and aerial resources.
As of Friday, the death toll from the July 30 landslides in Chooralmala and Mundakkai of Wayanad stands at 308. Kerala Health Minister Veena George reported that 215 bodies and 143 body parts have been recovered, with 148 bodies identified by relatives so far.
