US Sends More Fighter Jets and Navy Ships to Protect Israel

Washington [US], August 3: The United States is sending more fighter jets and Navy ships to West Asia to help protect Israel. This decision was announced by the US Department of Defence. Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh said the move is in response to threats from Iran and groups supported by Iran.

Increased Readiness

The US is also preparing to deploy more land-based missile defenses. US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin has ordered more missile defense-capable ships to the US European Command and US Central Command regions. He has also ordered more fighter jets to West Asia.

Support for Israel

This decision follows talks between President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Secretary Austin also spoke with Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, promising more support for Israel. Austin assured Gallant of the US’s strong support for Israel’s security and mentioned new defensive measures.

Response to Recent Events

The US is preparing for possible retaliation from Iran after the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. Iran and its allies have promised revenge for the deaths of Haniyeh and a top Hezbollah commander, Fouad Shukur, in Lebanon. The US had previously helped defend Israel from attacks by Iran and Iranian-backed groups in April.

Military Adjustments

To maintain a strong presence in West Asia, Austin has ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group to replace the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group. The US is also focused on reducing tensions in the region and working towards a ceasefire to end the war in Gaza.

Commitment to Israel’s Security

President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to Israel’s security in a call with Prime Minister Netanyahu. Vice President Harris also joined the call. Biden discussed new US military deployments to support Israel against threats from Iran and its allies, including Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis.
