PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi Respond to Kerala Landslides in Wayanad
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who died in the Wayanad landslides, which occurred after heavy rains. The injured will receive Rs 50,000. Kerala Health Minister Veena George confirmed 11 deaths.
PM Modi expressed his distress over the incident and assured all possible help from the Centre. He spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan about the situation. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also expressed his concern and spoke to the Kerala Chief Minister and the Wayanad District Collector to ensure coordinated rescue efforts.
Rescue operations are ongoing, with 250 personnel from Fire and Rescue, Civil Defence, NDRF, and Local Emergency Response Teams involved. An additional NDRF team is on the way. WIMS Medical College in Wayanad is treating 48 people and has received four bodies so far.
