Lakshya Sen’s Match Deleted After Opponent’s Injury, Manu Bhaker Wins Bronze at Paris Olympics
In an unexpected turn of events, Lakshya Sen’s victory over Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon in the badminton men’s singles Group L match at the Paris Olympics was deleted. Cordon had to withdraw from the event due to a left elbow injury. As a result, his upcoming matches against Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie and Belgium’s Julien Carraggi will not be played. According to the BWF General Competition Regulations, the result of the match between Sen and Cordon was removed. Sen will now be ranked based on his remaining two matches in Group L and will face Julien Carraggi on July 29.
Earlier, Lakshya Sen had defeated Kevin Cordon 21-8, 22-20 in a match that lasted 42 minutes. Sen started strong, winning the first game 21-8 in just 14 minutes. Although Cordon took a lead in the second game, Sen made a remarkable comeback by winning six points in a row to secure the match.
Manu Bhaker Wins Bronze
India celebrated its first medal at the Paris Olympics when ace shooter Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal in the 10 Metre Women’s Air Pistol event. Bhaker, 22, became the first Indian woman to win a shooting medal at the Olympics, scoring 221.7 points. This victory was especially sweet for Bhaker, who had faced a pistol malfunction at the Tokyo Olympics. She also became the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event since Suma Shirur in 2004.
South Korea’s Ye Jin clinched the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, while her compatriot Kim Yeji took the silver with 241.3 points. On the opening day, Bhaker finished third in the qualification round to secure her spot in the final. Unfortunately, another Indian shooter, Rhythm Sangwan, did not make it to the final, finishing in 15th place.
