Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian shooter Manu Bhaker for winning a bronze medal in the Women’s 10 metre Air Pistol event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Bhaker’s achievement marks the first time an Indian woman has won a medal in shooting at the Olympics. She scored 221.7 points, securing India’s first medal in the ongoing event.

South Korea’s Ye Jin won the gold medal with an Olympic record of 243.2 points, while Kim Yeji, also from South Korea, took the silver with 241.3 points.

Bhaker’s success follows a challenging experience at the Tokyo Olympics, where her pistol malfunctioned. She became the first Indian woman in 20 years to reach a shooting final in an individual event at the Olympics since Suma Shirur in 2004.

On the opening day, Bhaker finished third in the qualification round of Women’s 10 Metre Air Pistol to qualify for the final. Rhythm Sangwan, another Indian shooter, finished in 15th place and did not make it to the final.
