PM Modi Highlights Charaideo Moidam of Assam in Mann Ki Baat
Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed the Charaideo Moidam, a unique 700-year-old mound-burial system of the Ahom dynasty in Assam, during the 112th episode of his monthly radio broadcast, Mann Ki Baat.
Charaideo Moidam: A New UNESCO World Heritage Site
Charaideo Moidam has been announced for inclusion under the category of Cultural Property at the 46th World Heritage Committee meeting in New Delhi. This makes it the 43rd World Heritage site in India and the first in the northeast.
PM Modi explained that Charaideo means ‘a shining city on the hills’ and was the first capital of the Ahom Dynasty. The Ahom people traditionally kept the bodies of their ancestors and their valuables in Moidam, which are hillock-like structures covered with soil and containing rooms below.
Historical Significance
Modi highlighted the unique way the Ahom dynasty showed respect to their ancestors and mentioned that the dynasty lasted from the 13th to the 19th century. He also recalled unveiling a statue of the great Ahom warrior Lachit Borphukan earlier this year.
International Mathematics Olympiad
The Prime Minister also lauded the participants of the International Mathematics Olympiad, where youth from over 100 countries competed. He encouraged young math experts to take inspiration from these participants.
