UAE Shines at G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil
The UAE took part in the G20 Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting in Fortaleza, Brazil, which ended on July 26. The meeting aimed to address the latest trends in the international labour market.

Shayma Al Awadhi, Assistant Undersecretary for Communication and International Relations at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), spoke at the forum. Al Awadhi highlighted the UAE’s significant strides in investing in advanced technologies, guided by its leadership’s vision. The UAE focuses on using cutting-edge technologies to improve lives and services, particularly in human resources and employment.
Technological Advancements
The UAE has ranked 12th globally on the IMD World Digital Competitiveness ranking in 2023. The country aims to double the digital economy’s GDP contribution from 9.7% to 19.4% over the next 10 years. The UAE is expected to spend USD 20 billion on digital technologies in the next three years, including IT, AI, IoT, blockchain, and robotics.
Investments in the UAE financial technology sector reached USD 1.3 billion, a 92% increase, thanks to the country’s advanced digital infrastructure and investment-friendly policies.
Labour Market Initiatives
Al Awadhi also highlighted various digital services offered by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, such as the Wage Protection System (WPS) and the Smart Inspection System, benefiting 99% of private-sector workers.
Just Transition Leadership Forum
The UAE joined the Just Transition Leadership Forum, part of the G20 meeting, which discussed job creation, social inclusion, and reducing the gender pay gap. The event also included cultural programs and discussions on using technology to improve lives.
