Bhiwani Boxers Jasmine Lamboria and Preeti Panwar Aim for Medals at Paris 2024 Olympics
Boxers from Bhiwani, Haryana, known as ‘mini Cuba,’ are cheering for Team India at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Jasmine Lamboria and Preeti Panwar will compete in the 57 kg and 54 kg weight categories, respectively.
National boxer Nupur expressed confidence in their success, stating, “They have worked very hard for the Games, and I am confident they will return with medals for the country.” Nupur also mentioned the legacy of Bhiwani’s boxing tradition, highlighting figures like Vijender Singh and Captain Hawa Singh.
Bhiwani, home to over a dozen boxing academies, has produced many national and international athletes. Senior coach Kuldeep Singh praised the preparation and support from coaches and the government, hoping for medal wins. He noted that both Panwar and Lamboria trained at the SAI Boxing Club in Bhiwani.
Boxing in Bhiwani began with the late Captain Hawa Singh, and the district has since become a hub for budding boxers. Neetu, another successful boxer from Bhiwani, shared her experiences and the support from the government, which has been crucial for their success.
The Indian government’s sports policy, along with Haryana’s incentives like DSP-level jobs and cash rewards, has significantly boosted interest in sports and contributed to medal successes.
