Dharwad Schools Closed Due to Heavy Rains
Dharwad, Karnataka: Due to heavy rains, Dharwad District Collector Divya Prabhu announced a holiday for all Anganwadis, Pre-Primary, Primary, High School, and Undergraduate Colleges in the district on July 27. This decision follows similar closures on July 25 and 26.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted very heavy rainfall in Coastal and South Interior Karnataka on July 26 and 27. Other regions like Konkan, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh are also expected to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Indian Army Rescues in Uttar Kannada
In response to severe weather and landslides in Uttar Kannada, the Indian Army deployed rescue teams. Continuous heavy rains have caused multiple landslides, particularly affecting National Highway 66. A major landslide on July 16 in Shirur Village trapped several individuals. The Indian Army mobilized two Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) teams from the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre on July 21 to assist in rescue operations.
