External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar congratulated Liberia’s Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti and the people of Liberia on their Independence Day. He expressed his commitment to strengthening the partnership between India and Liberia.

Key Initiatives

Jaishankar highlighted several initiatives, including:

  • A 50km Barclayville-Sasstown-Klowne Road project in Liberia costing USD 50 million.
  • Bilateral trade between the two countries amounting to USD 255.75 million in 2023-24.

Educational and Training Opportunities

India offers various educational and training opportunities to Liberians, such as:

  • 70 slots under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation scheme.
  • Four slots for undergraduate/postgraduate/Philosopher’s Degree courses and one slot for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery course through the Indian Council for Cultural Relations.
  • Six slots in Army and Navy under the Defence Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation.
  • A Liberian Protocol Officer attended the 69th Professional Course for Foreign Diplomats at the Sushma Swaraj Institute of Foreign Service in Delhi.

Cultural Connections

Jaishankar mentioned the vibrant Indian diaspora in Liberia, with about 3,000 Indian nationals and People of Indian Origin celebrating Indian festivals like Onam and Holi. Liberia also celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day this year.
