India Urges Canada to Act Against Anti-India Threats and Protect Hindu Temples

India’s Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal has called on Canada to take action against anti-India elements who have repeatedly threatened Indian leaders, institutions, airlines, and diplomats. Jaiswal emphasized the need for Canada to apply the same level of action to threats against India as it does to threats against its own leaders.

Recently, two men from Alberta were charged with making death threats against Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other leaders. Mason John Baker, 23, and Garry Belzevick, 67, face charges for allegedly posting threats online.

The relationship between India and Canada has been strained since Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau mentioned potential links between Indian agents and the killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar in 2023. India has dismissed these allegations as absurd and motivated.

Additionally, the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir in Edmonton was recently vandalized, raising concerns about increasing hate-fueled violence against Hindu-Canadian communities. Member of Parliament Chandra Arya and other leaders have called for Canadian law enforcement to take these issues seriously and protect all religious communities.
