Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and BJP Clash Over Alleged Scams
In Bengaluru, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar accused the BJP of stopping Chief Minister Siddaramiah from replying to allegations of various scams. BJP leaders had staged a night-long sit-in protest at the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
Shivakumar stated, “A lot of scams have been done in the BJP regime and their investigation is on. We wanted to reply in the assembly and they wanted to stop us. But in his written speech, CM had given a detailed reply on the number of scams that have happened and how they have happened… SIT was already investigating and now ED and CBI have entered… We don’t want to intervene with the investigation.”
Higher Education Minister MC Sudhakar added that the BJP is creating issues from their tenure to gain public attention. He said, “The BJP is unnecessarily creating issues that happened during their tenure. At the same time, they didn’t allow our CM to reply, so you can understand their attitude… They want to make all allegations against the government and they are not allowing us to give our side of the facts and figures of what is available, who is responsible for all this, and all of the beneficiaries in the Valmiki issues… So this is purely a political drama being played by the BJP just to get the people’s attention.”
Sudhakar also questioned why the BJP wasn’t addressing the electoral bonds issue and accused them of using enforcement agencies to make allegations against the Karnataka Chief Minister and other party leaders. He said, “If you’re making such a big issue, why aren’t you speaking about the electoral bond issue? The Supreme Court is directly monitoring and asked to inquire about this but other enforcement agencies are not bothered to inquire about the whole bond issue. And you are using all the enforcement agencies and asking them to make allegations against the Chief Minister and other important leaders in the party itself. It is very clear that the BJP is desperate to disturb all the opposition governments in this country.”
Regarding the opposition’s demand for the CM’s resignation over the Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scams, Sudhakar called it a ridiculous request. He said, “It’s a ridiculous request, whatever they have put out. In that case, the finance minister of this country is responsible. The bank people have made mistakes, transferred the amount and are also equally responsible. In what way is our CM responsible for it?”
