CBI Charges Nine in Infant Trafficking Case in India

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against nine individuals involved in the trafficking, sale, and purchase of infants. The chargesheet was filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

Details of the Case

The CBI registered the case on April 5 and conducted searches in Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan, recovering incriminating evidence. The investigation revealed that the accused used social media platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp to connect with childless couples looking to adopt. They bought infants from economically disadvantaged parents and sold them for 4 to 6 lakhs each, using fake documents to deceive the buyers.

Arrests and Rescues

Eight of the accused traffickers have been arrested and sent to judicial custody. The CBI has also rescued five infants so far. The court has taken cognizance of the offenses against all the accused.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation is still ongoing. The public is reminded that the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a fair trial.
