New Delhi [India], July 24: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman strongly defended the Union Budget in the Rajya Sabha, countering opposition leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s claims that it was discriminatory. Kharge had alleged that the budget favored only Andhra Pradesh and Bihar, ignoring other states.
Sitharaman responded by stating that not mentioning every state in the budget speech does not mean they are ignored. She highlighted that Maharashtra, despite not being named, received significant funds for a port project. She emphasized that funds and schemes are allocated fairly across all states.
The Finance Minister accused the opposition, led by the Congress party, of deliberately misleading the public. She challenged the Congress to show any of their past budgets where every state was named.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, protested in the Parliament complex, claiming the budget was discriminatory. They held placards and raised slogans against the budget.
