New Delhi, India – Congress MP Manickam Tagore has called for an urgent discussion in the Lok Sabha regarding the alleged neglect of Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget 2024, presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Tagore submitted an adjournment motion notice to address this issue.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her seventh consecutive Union Budget on Tuesday, setting a new record. However, Tagore and DMK MP Tiruchi Siva criticized the budget for ignoring Tamil Nadu’s needs. Siva highlighted that many people in India are still below the poverty line and dependent on ration shops, and that promised job opportunities have not materialized.

In her budget speech, Sitharaman outlined nine priority areas, including agriculture, employment, human resource development, and infrastructure. She also announced significant income-tax reforms and proposed creating 4.1 crore jobs over the next five years, with a budget allocation of Rs 2 lakh crore for employment and Rs 1.48 crore for skilling 20 lakh youth.
