Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs Transform Healthcare in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir
In Udhampur, a district in Jammu and Kashmir, the Health and Wellness Centres, known as Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, have significantly improved healthcare services in rural areas. Around 146 centres have been established, enhancing access to medical facilities, especially for pregnant women.
Improved Healthcare Facilities
Udhampur Chief Medical Officer, Anil Manhas, highlighted the improvements over the past one to one and a half years. He mentioned that these centres provide free medicines and focus on both physical and mental health, including yoga classes.
Comprehensive Healthcare Services
The Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs initiative by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare aims to offer a wide range of services, including preventive, promotive, curative, rehabilitative, and palliative care. The initiative has two main components:
- Creating 1,50,000 Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs to deliver universal and free primary healthcare with a focus on wellness.
- The Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), which provides health insurance coverage of Rs 5 lakhs per year to over 10 crore poor and vulnerable families for secondary and tertiary care.
Currently, there are 1,73,763 functional Ayushman Aarogya Mandirs, including sub-health centres, primary health centres, urban primary health centres, and centres for Ayurveda, Yoga, Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.
