The Bhairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project in Mizoram is at an advanced stage of completion. This project aims to connect the capital of Mizoram to the rest of India, significantly improving communication and commerce.

Project Details

The project involves constructing 51.38 km of new railway lines, divided into four sections: Bhairabi-Hortoki, Hortoki-Kawnpui, Kawnpui-Mualkhang, and Mualkhang-Sairang. It includes multiple tunnels and bridges, with 93% of the work already completed.

Key Features

  • 12,853 meters of tunnels, with 12,807 meters completed
  • 55 major bridges and 89 minor bridges, with 47 major and 87 minor bridges completed
  • The tallest pier, Pier P-4 of Bridge No. 196, is 104 meters tall, 42 meters taller than the Qutub Minar
  • Four stations: Hortoki, Kawnpui, Mualkhang, and Sairang

Challenges and Benefits

Despite challenges like tough terrain, heavy monsoons, and limited resources, the Northeast Frontier Railway is committed to completing the project. The new railway will enhance connectivity, boost local industries, and promote tourism. It will also reduce travel time and transportation costs for passengers and goods.
