Truck Drivers Protest After Landslide in Uttar Kannada, Karnataka
Truck drivers in Uttar Kannada, Karnataka, have been stranded for eight days due to a landslide on National Highway 66. The landslide, triggered by heavy rains, blocked the road near Shirur village in Ankola Taluk, causing significant distress to drivers and travelers.
Despite one side of the road being cleared, police have not permitted the drivers to leave. Local churches and care centers have been providing food and water to the stranded drivers. One driver expressed concern about the milk in his truck spoiling.
The landslide, which occurred on July 16, claimed the lives of 10 people. Rescue operations are still ongoing, with seven bodies recovered so far. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy have assessed the situation and interacted with the rescue teams.
