CPI (M) Criticizes BJP’s New Rules for Eateries During Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has strongly condemned the directive issued by the BJP state governments in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The new rule mandates that all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route display the names of their owners.

CPI (M) Statement

According to CPI (M), this decision is designed to increase communal tensions and is unconstitutional. They argue that it undermines the fundamental right of equality for all citizens and could lead to caste-based social oppression.

Government’s Justification

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the rule is intended to maintain the sanctity of the pilgrims’ faith. The Muzaffarnagar police added that the order is not meant to create religious discrimination but to help devotees during the holy month of Shravan.

Opposition’s Reaction

The opposition parties have criticized the move, accusing the UP government of targeting a specific community. They have called for the NDA alliance to pressure the UP and Uttarakhand governments to rescind the order.
