Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole Criticizes BJP’s Voter Conspiracy Claims

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], July 20: Maharashtra Congress president Nana Patole has strongly criticized state BJP president Chandrasekhar Bawankule’s allegations of a ‘conspiracy in registration of voters.’ Patole demanded that the ruling party first provide an account of their actions while in power, accusing them of failing to govern effectively in Maharashtra.

The conflict between the BJP and Congress intensified after Bawankule alleged a significant conspiracy in the state’s electoral procedures, urging action against officials involved in vote manipulation. Patole responded by questioning the BJP’s governance and accusing them of selling Maharashtra to Adani and bringing drugs from Gujarat.

Bawankule claimed that in Dhule and Malegaon constituencies, there were over 3000 duplicate voter entries, and he called for the Election Commission to take action. He suggested that this issue might be present in 30-40 Assembly constituencies and emphasized the need for action against the officials involved.

The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled for later this year, with the current assembly’s tenure ending in 2024. In the recent parliamentary elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance won 30 out of 48 constituencies in Maharashtra, with Congress emerging as the largest party. The ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was reduced to 17 seats from 41 in 2019.
