Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited Russia and discussed the discharge of Indian nationals from the Russian Army with President Vladimir Putin. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is in touch with 50 Indians who wish to leave the Russian Army. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that both countries are working towards an early discharge of these individuals.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra also emphasized that Prime Minister Modi took a strong stance on this issue, leading to a positive response from the Russian government. Ten Indian nationals have already returned from Russia.

In another development, the Indian Navy, along with Omani authorities, is conducting search and rescue operations for the crew members of the capsized vessel Falcon Prestige near Oman. The ship capsized on July 15, and so far, nine crew members, including eight Indians and one Sri Lankan, have been rescued. Unfortunately, one crew member has died, and efforts are ongoing to find the remaining members.

The Indian Navy’s warship INS Teg is actively involved in the rescue operations. The Falcon Prestige had a crew of 13 Indians and three Sri Lankans when it capsized about 25 nautical miles southeast of Ras Madrakah, Oman.
