Heavy Rains Cause School Closures and Flooding in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala

Amid heavy and continuous rainfall, the Nilgiri district in Tamil Nadu has declared holidays for schools in several regions. District Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneru announced closures in Ooty, Gudalur, Kundha, and Pandalu due to the heavy rain over the past five days.

In addition, schools in Udkai, Kunta, Kudalur, and Bandalur are also closed. The district has experienced landslides and fallen trees, disrupting traffic. Authorities are working to clear the roads.

In Kudalur and Bandalur, floodwater has entered houses in low-lying areas. The Avalanchi area recorded the highest rainfall at 21 cm, followed by Cherangode with 12.6 cm, Upper Bhawani with 12 cm, and Bandalur with 10.4 cm.

In Andhra Pradesh, District Collector AS Dinesh Kumar declared a holiday for all educational institutions in the Alluri Seetharamaraju district due to widespread rains.

Kerala’s Kottayam district is also heavily affected, with many houses underwater. Western parts like Thiruvarppu, Illikkal, and Pathinarilchira are waterlogged, and roads are submerged.

Rain also lashed parts of Karnataka’s Mangaluru city. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in isolated regions of Kerala today.
