Abu Dhabi’s DoH Welcomes Over 500 Applicants for 2024 Medical Education Programmes
The Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) has accepted 505 applicants out of 1,711 for its 2024 Medical Education Programmes, marking a 10% increase from 2023. The programmes include internships, residencies, and fellowships in various medical fields such as medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.
All 294 UAE national applications were accepted, with Emiratis making up 75% of residency participants and 62% of fellowship participants. This is the first time since the programme’s launch in 2010 that the number of accepted UAE nationals has surpassed non-nationals.
Rashid Obaid Al Suwaidi, Executive Director of the Healthcare Workforce Sector at DoH, expressed excitement over the growing interest in the programmes. He emphasized that this achievement reflects DoH’s commitment to high standards and excellence, as well as its dedication to nurturing national talent and contributing to the UAE’s vision of a sustainable, self-reliant healthcare workforce.
The Medical Education Programmes offer 44 specialities, including newly added fellowships in critical care and geriatric medicine, medical residency in urology, and three dental internships. Other specialities include general surgery, paediatric surgery, internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine, anaesthesiology, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, psychiatry, dermatology, urology, radiology, dentistry, and pharmacy. Each programme is led by industry experts in Abu Dhabi’s state-of-the-art facilities, providing an ideal platform for knowledge and experience sharing.
