Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Questions BJP on SC/ST Budget Allocation

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for not increasing budget allocations for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes when they were in power. He addressed the misuse of grants by the Valmiki Development Corporation and highlighted the importance of economic and social equality for these communities.

Siddaramaiah emphasized that his government implemented the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) and Tribal Sub Plan (TSP) Act in 2013, which made it mandatory to allocate 24.1% of the budget for the development of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. He questioned the BJP’s commitment to social justice and defended his government’s actions.

The Valmiki case came to light after an official, Chandrasekaran, died by suicide, leaving a note alleging multi-crore corruption in the corporation. Siddaramaiah pointed out that the opposition is shedding ‘crocodile tears’ and reiterated his commitment to social justice.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested former Karnataka Minister B Nagendra in connection with the alleged scam. Nagendra has denied the allegations and expressed confidence in clearing his name.
