Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge Criticizes Modi Government Over Train Derailment in Uttar Pradesh
New Delhi [India], July 18: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Centre following the derailment of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in Uttar Pradesh. The incident resulted in two deaths and 20 injuries, according to CPRO North Eastern Railway Pankaj Singh.
Kharge stated, “The derailment of Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express in UP is yet another instance of how the Modi government has systematically jeopardized rail safety. Our deepest condolences to the families of the bereaved, and our thoughts and prayers are with the injured.”
He demanded the expeditious installation of the Kavach anti-collision system on all routes across India to enhance safety measures and prevent accidents.
CPRO North Eastern Railway Pankaj Singh provided details about the incident, stating, “One death has been reported and there are 7 injured, including one severely injured. The medical van of Railways has reached the spot, and rescue operations have started. Helpline numbers have been issued.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed officials to expedite relief work and ensure proper treatment for the injured. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is also monitoring the situation.
This incident follows a previous train collision where 11 people lost their lives. The Commissioner of Railway Safety cited multiple lapses and the non-availability of critical safety equipment as reasons for the collision.
