Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Approves Job Reservations for Kannadigas
Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], July 17: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that the cabinet has approved a bill to reserve 50% of administrative jobs and 75% of non-administrative jobs in private industries for Kannadigas. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting on Monday.
Earlier, the Chief Minister had suggested a 100% reservation for Kannadigas in C&D category jobs, but this was not included in the final bill. Siddaramaiah emphasized the government’s commitment to the welfare of Kannadigas, stating, “It is our government’s wish that Kannadigas should not be deprived of jobs in their homeland and should be able to build a comfortable life here. We are a pro-Kannada government.”
State Commerce and Industries Minister MB Patil addressed concerns from industrialists about the new bill. He assured that the government would consult widely to ensure that the interests of both Kannadigas and industries are protected. Patil highlighted the importance of Karnataka remaining competitive in the ongoing industrial revolution, driven by the global China Plus One policy.
On Tuesday, the Karnataka cabinet approved the bill, which has faced objections from several industry leaders who believe it may negatively impact the tech industry. Patil reassured that the state would safeguard everyone’s interests and that industries should not fear the new regulations.
