CBI Arrests Two More in NEET-UG Paper Leak Case

Pankaj Kumar Singh and Raju Singh Taken into Custody

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two more individuals, Pankaj Kumar Singh and Raju Singh, in connection with the NEET-UG paper leak case. Pankaj was arrested in Patna and Raju in Hazaribagh.

Details of the Arrest

Pankaj Kumar Singh, a civil engineer who graduated from NIT Jamshedpur, allegedly stole the question paper from Hazaribagh. A senior CBI official confirmed this information. Earlier, on July 12, the Patna High Court granted CBI custody to 13 individuals arrested by Patna Police in connection with the case. These individuals will be interrogated and confronted with the key player, Rakesh Ranjan, alias Rocky, who is also in CBI custody.

Background of the Case

Rakesh Ranjan, believed to be a key player in the NEET paper leak network, was arrested from Bihar’s Nalanda. The CBI conducted coordinated raids in Patna and Kolkata, leading to the arrest of over a dozen suspects involved in the scandal.

Impact on NEET-UG Exam

The NEET-UG exam, held on May 5, 2024, has faced allegations of cheating and impersonation. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the exam, has been criticized, leading to protests and legal actions. The Union Health Ministry has postponed the NEET-PG 2024 exam, with new dates to be announced soon. The government has replaced the chief of the NTA and formed a committee to review and improve its functioning.

The NEET-UG examination is crucial for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across India. The 2024 exam was held across 4,750 centers, with around 24 lakh candidates appearing.
