Gareth Southgate resigned as the manager of the England football team following their 2-1 loss to Spain in the final of the 2024 UEFA Euro competition. The match took place at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, where Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal scored for Spain, securing their fourth European Championship.

In a message shared by England Football, Southgate expressed his pride in managing the team and thanked his assistant coach, Steve Holland, and the backroom staff for their support. He also praised the players and fans, highlighting the potential of the current squad to win future trophies.

Southgate joined the Football Association in 2011 and became the senior national team manager in 2016 after Sam Allardyce’s exit. Under his leadership, England reached the semifinals of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the final of Euro 2020, the quarterfinals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and the final of Euro 2024.

Despite the loss, Southgate remains optimistic about the future of English football and looks forward to supporting the team as a fan.
