Justice L N Reddy Steps Down from Inquiry on K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Power Deals
New Delhi [India], July 16: Retired judge Justice L N Reddy has decided not to continue as Commissioner investigating alleged irregularities in power procurement during former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s tenure from 2014 to 2023. The Supreme Court was informed of this decision by Senior Advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan.
The Telangana High Court had earlier rejected Rao’s plea against the commission’s formation, leading Rao to challenge the decision in the Supreme Court. The matter was heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra.
The court noted the observations in the press note and opined for replacing the judge in the commission, emphasizing that justice must be seen to be done. Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing the petitioner, argued that the case against Rao was politically motivated. Meanwhile, Senior Advocate AM Singhvi, representing Telangana state, defended the decision to appoint the commission.
The Telangana Government informed the Supreme Court that a new notification will be issued to appoint an alternate commissioner to replace Justice Reddy.
