Chhattisgarh’s Fight Against Malaria: Big Drop in Cases Thanks to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai

Chhattisgarh has made great progress in reducing malaria cases, especially in the dense forests and hard-to-reach areas of Bastar Division. The state’s malaria positivity rate has dropped from 4.60% to 0.51% due to strategic efforts.

Chief Minister’s Proactive Measures

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has directed the health department to take proactive steps to prevent seasonal diseases during the monsoon. These measures have led to a significant reduction in malaria cases across the state, including Bastar.

Health Minister’s Tour

Health Minister Shyam Bihari Jaiswal is currently touring Bijapur district to intensify efforts against malaria. Out of all malaria cases in Chhattisgarh, 61.99% come from Dantewada, Bijapur, and Narayanpur.

Successful Campaign

The malaria eradication campaign has been very successful. The malaria positivity rate has decreased from 4.60% to 0.51% over nine phases from 2020 to 2023. The tenth phase ended on July 5, 2024. As part of the campaign, 16.97 lakh insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed across 22 districts.

Current Statistics

In the first half of 2024, the health department reported 1,660 cases in Bastar, 4,441 in Bijapur, 1,640 in Dantewada, 259 in Kanker, 701 in Kondagaon, 1,509 in Narayanpur, and 1,144 in Sukma. The health department has improved case monitoring and treatment facilities in all districts.

Public Awareness

The state government urges people to visit the nearest health center if they show malaria symptoms. This vigilance and public awareness have led to a significant reduction in malaria cases in Chhattisgarh.
