NATO Chief and US Officials Condemn Attack on Donald Trump at Pennsylvania Rally

Attack on Former President Donald Trump at Pennsylvania Rally

On July 13, during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, former US President Donald Trump was attacked. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg condemned the attack, stating that political violence has no place in democracies. He wished Trump a speedy recovery and expressed solidarity with those affected.

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also condemned the incident. Austin expressed relief that Trump was safe and emphasized that violence is not a way to resolve differences in America. Blinken echoed these sentiments, stating that there is no place for political violence in the US.

During the rally, gunshots were fired, and Secret Service agents quickly escorted Trump off the stage. One attendee was killed, and two others were critically injured. The gunman, identified as Thomas Matthew Crooks, was killed by Secret Service agents. The FBI is investigating the incident, with special agent Kevin Rojek noting the surprising ability of the gunman to fire multiple shots.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro confirmed that Trump had left the Butler area safely. He expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their swift response and mourned the loss of life while praying for the injured victims.
