New Delhi [India], July 13: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has criticized the recent amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019. He stated that these changes are not ‘normal amendments’ and give excessive power to the Lieutenant Governor (LG), making the elected government powerless.

In a post on X, Owaisi said, “These are not Normal amendments. They encroach upon the subjects vested with an elected government under J&K Reorganisation. JKAS officers could be posted as administrative secretaries only by LG. LG will be the Super CM (Sixth Finger).”

He further added that after the elections in the Union Territory, the elected government will be a ‘lame duck’ with no participation in postings, security, etc. “In Anticipation that after elections (if they are held), the BJP will not be able to form government, almost all powers have been ‘gifted’ to LG. The Elected Government will be lame duck and have NO say in postings, security etc. It will be much like Puducherry,” Owaisi added.

President Droupadi Murmu has given her approval to the amendments, which were published in the Official Gazette on July 12. Government sources clarified that only the Transaction of Business Rules have been amended, and these changes are clarificatory in nature, based on the existing provisions of the State Reorganization Act of 2019.
