Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Amidst BJP Criticism
The Supreme Court has granted interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a case related to the now-scrapped excise policy. This decision came after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) presented a detailed chargesheet accusing Kejriwal of being the kingpin of the excise policy scam.
BJP’s Response
BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj criticized Kejriwal, stating that his stubbornness is causing a policy paralysis and constitutional crisis in Delhi. She emphasized that the Supreme Court has not provided any relief to Kejriwal, as the matter has been referred to a larger bench.
AAP’s Reaction
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision and accused the BJP of conspiring against Kejriwal. Delhi Minister Atishi claimed that the BJP’s actions were aimed at preventing Kejriwal from working for the people of Delhi.
Legal Proceedings
A bench led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna referred Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the ED to a larger bench. The Supreme Court noted that Kejriwal had been incarcerated for 90 days and acknowledged his status as an elected leader. The High Court had previously dismissed Kejriwal’s plea for release, rejecting his argument of political vendetta.
