Nepal Landslide Sweeps Buses into River: Rescue Operations Underway

Early Friday morning, a landslide on the Madan-Ashrit Highway in Nepal caused two buses to fall into the Trishuli River. The buses were carrying 63 people and were traveling between Kathmandu and Rautahat’s Gaur.

Rescue Operations

Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and other security forces have launched search and rescue operations. According to DSP Shailendra Thapa, 45 personnel from the Armed Police Force’s 17th Battalion in Chitwan and 25 individuals, including 7 divers from the Disaster Management Training School, are at the accident scene.

Details of the Incident

The incident occurred around 3:30 am amid heavy rain. Three passengers from the Ganpati Deluxe bus managed to escape by jumping out of the vehicle. Superintendent of Police Bhawesh Rimal stated that rescue operations are ongoing.

Traffic Obstruction

Debris from the landslide has obstructed traffic on the Narayanghat-Mugling road section. Nepal’s Army has also deployed forces, including divers, to assist in the rescue operations.
