Prof Mohammad Shakeel Becomes Temporary Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia

New Delhi, India – Professor Mohammad Shakeel has been appointed as the Officiating Vice-Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia University. This decision was approved by the President of India, who acts as the Visitor of the university.

Shakeel, a senior professor at the university, will serve in this role until a regular Vice-Chancellor is appointed. His appointment follows the Delhi High Court’s decision on May 22 to quash the previous appointment of Eqbal Hussain.

Eqbal Hussain has challenged Shakeel’s appointment, and the Delhi High Court has asked Jamia Millia Islamia University to respond to this plea. The court has scheduled a hearing on the matter for August 12.
