Agartala Police Arrest Five Rohingya Immigrants for Illegal Border Crossing

In West Tripura, India, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested five Rohingya immigrants on Tuesday for illegally crossing the Indo-Bangla international border. The group included two women and three men.

Details of the Arrest

The arrested individuals are:

  • Md Imran (22 years)
  • Md Abu Jamir (20 years)
  • Md Azizul Hossen (22 years)
  • Yasmin Ara (20 years)
  • Raju Begam (35 years)

They were trying to reach destinations such as Hyderabad and Jammu & Kashmir by train. The arrests were part of a coordinated effort to prevent illegal immigration.

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station. The apprehended individuals will be presented before the court on Wednesday.

Previous Incidents

Last year, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police arrested eight people, including two Bangladeshi nationals, for helping illegal Rohingya immigrants enter India using fake documents. This operation was conducted under the supervision of Partha Sarathi Mahanta, DIG (STF).
