Israeli Soldiers Fight Hamas in Gaza, Destroy Tunnels and Kill 150 Terrorists
Tel Aviv [Israel], July 9: Since June 27, Israeli soldiers have been fighting in the northern Gaza area of Shejaya, where Hamas is trying to reestablish itself. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) reported that troops have killed more than 150 terrorists and destroyed six significant tunnels.
Details of the Operation
Soldiers from the Paratroopers Brigade and Yahalom, an elite combat engineering unit, have been involved in the operation. They have been fighting both above and below ground, destroying booby-trapped buildings and seizing weapons and intelligence documents.
Tunnel Destruction
The IDF has destroyed six tunnels, each about six kilometers long. These tunnels contained hideouts, command and control centers, weapons, and intelligence documents.
Background
This operation follows Hamas’s attacks on Israeli communities near the Gaza border on October 7, which resulted in 1,200 deaths and 252 hostages. Of the 116 remaining hostages, more than 30 are believed to be dead.
