The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken notice of a report about 23 child labourers rescued in Saraswati Vihar, Delhi. The children, including nine girls and 14 boys, were working in factories.

The NHRC has issued notices to Delhi’s Chief Secretary and Police Commissioner for a detailed report within two weeks. The District Magistrate of North West Delhi is also directed to report on actions taken for the children’s rehabilitation and legal measures against employers.

The NHRC emphasized that employing children under 14 is a criminal offense under the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986, as amended in 2016. The Commission has also called for a survey to identify other industrial units employing child labourers in Delhi.
