New Delhi, India – India’s cricket captain, Rohit Sharma, shared an emotional note for former head coach Rahul Dravid after India’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024. India defeated South Africa by seven runs to win the trophy for the first time in 17 years.

In the final match, Virat Kohli and Axar Patel’s strong partnership helped India reach a total of 176/7. Despite a tense defense, India managed to secure a 7-run win, claiming their second T20 World Cup title.

Rohit Sharma’s Tribute to Rahul Dravid

Rohit Sharma took to Instagram to express his admiration for Rahul Dravid. He mentioned how he looked up to Dravid since childhood and felt fortunate to work closely with him. Rohit praised Dravid as a ‘stalwart’ of cricket and appreciated his humility and love for the game.

Rohit wrote, “You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished.”

Winning the T20 World Cup Together

Rohit expressed his happiness in winning the T20 World Cup with Dravid and called it a privilege to have him as a coach. He concluded by saying, “This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend.”

Rohit Sharma’s Retirement and New Coach Announcement

After the victory, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from T20 cricket. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Jay Shah, confirmed that a new head coach will join the team for the upcoming Sri Lanka series. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has shortlisted two names, and the final decision will be announced soon.

Currently, former cricketer VVS Laxman is serving as Team India’s interim head coach in Zimbabwe.
