Floods in Assam: Minister Pijush Hazarika and MP Dilip Saikia Discuss Relief Efforts

The flood situation in Assam is gradually improving, with 23 lakh people affected across 29 districts. In Darrang district, 1.63 lakh people and 98 villages are impacted. The water level of the Brahmaputra River is receding.

Minister Pijush Hazarika’s Visit

Assam Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika visited the flood-affected areas in Darrang district. He noted that the water levels of the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries are receding. Hazarika mentioned that there were four embankment breaches and significant destruction along the riverside. The government is providing flood relief materials and plans to construct 220 km of new embankments this year.

MP Dilip Saikia’s Statement

BJP MP Dilip Saikia stated that both central and state governments are taking all possible steps for the flood-hit victims. He highlighted that the budget allocation for the Water Resources Department has increased significantly under the BJP rule. Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are closely monitoring the situation.

Local Challenges

Locals in areas like Misamari Char, Borochar, and others face massive problems as floods have submerged roads, leaving country-made boats as the only means of transport. The district administration reported that 1609 hectares of crop area are submerged. Many flood-affected people are taking shelter on roads and embankments.
