On July 7, 2024, President Droupadi Murmu took part in the annual Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri, Odisha. This festival is one of the most significant and eagerly awaited events in India.

President’s Message

President Murmu extended her heartfelt wishes to all Indians, expressing her hopes for everyone’s happiness, peace, and prosperity. She shared her message on X, highlighting the excitement of countless Jagannath-lovers worldwide.

Other Leaders’ Participation

Odisha Governor Raghubar Das, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also participated in the celebrations. Chief Minister Majhi expressed his wishes for a prosperous and enriched Odisha.

Prime Minister’s Greetings

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his greetings on the commencement of the sacred Rath Yatra, praying for the continuous blessings of Lord Jagannath.

Union Home Minister’s Involvement

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with his wife Sonal, performed the ‘Mangla Aarti’ at a temple in Ahmedabad earlier in the day.

The Festival

The Rath Yatra, also known as the Chariot Festival, is as old as the Jagannath Temple in Puri. Celebrated on the Dwitiya Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadh, the festival involves carrying the deities Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and his sister Subhadra on wooden chariots from Jagannath Temple to Gundicha Temple in Puri.
