Singareni Collieries to Start Mining in Odisha’s Naini Coal Mine After Land Approval
The Odisha government has approved the transfer of 643 hectares of forest land to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) for coal mining in the Naini coal mine. This approval, granted on July 4, 2024, resolves a long-standing delay since the Stage-II forest clearance in October 2022.
The Naini coal block, located in Odisha’s Angul District, has a Peak Rated Capacity of 10 Million Tonnes Per Annum and a significant reserve of 340.78 million tonnes. The project is expected to generate substantial revenue and profits for SCCL and benefit both state and central governments.
Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy played a key role in resolving the issue by holding extensive discussions with the Odisha government. Reddy thanked Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Manjhi for quickly resolving the matter. The increased production from the Naini coal mine is anticipated to generate an additional Rs 3000 crore in revenue and Rs 50 crore in profit annually.
The project will also boost statutory revenues like GST, royalty, DMFT contributions, and CSR funds, benefiting both state and central governments. The Singareni Collieries Company Limited is jointly owned by the governments of Telangana and India on a 51:49 equity basis.
