Assam Floods: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Dibrugarh Amid Crisis

Assam is facing severe floods affecting over 24.20 lakh people in 30 districts. Dhubri is the worst-hit district with 7,75,721 people affected. Agricultural lands and villages are submerged, with 63490.97 hectares of crop area underwater and 3518 villages affected.

The Brahmaputra River is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat, Guwahati, Goalpara, and Dhubri. Other affected districts include Cachar, Kamrup, Hailakandi, Hojai, Nagaon, Morigaon, Goalpara, Dibrugarh, Nalbari, Dhemaji, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, South Salmara, Tinsukia, Charaideo, Barpeta, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Chirang, Majuli, Biswanath, Darrang, Karbi Anglong West, and Kamrup Metropolitan. One child is missing in Kamrup Metropolitan.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Dibrugarh to review the flood situation. He walked through the affected areas, interacted with residents, and discussed community-driven solutions. Sarma shared a video on social media, stating, “Today met the people in the flood-affected areas of Dibrugarh and took their feedback. In Dibrugarh Town, we will be engaging experts and the local residents to find a community-driven solution to the problem of inundation.”

Addressing the media, Sarma mentioned that the flood situation is improving, but issues persist in embankment areas. He assured efforts to help everyone. Dibrugarh has faced a power cut for six days to prevent electrocution mishaps. The flood situation remains critical with a death toll of 52.
