On Wednesday, a team from the National Commission for Women (NCW) led by Chairperson Rekha Sharma and Member Secretary Meenakshi Negi visited Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, to meet the injured women victims of a tragic stampede incident.

Details of the Incident

The stampede occurred during a religious event led by Bhole Baba, where most participants were women. Rekha Sharma emphasized the need to educate women to prevent them from becoming easy targets in such events. She called Bhole Baba’s activities illegal and questioned whether the incident was pre-planned.

NCW’s Actions

The NCW team met with the District Magistrate (DM) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Hathras and visited the hospital to meet the injured women. Sharma stated that the women were not critically injured but needed counseling due to trauma.

Investigation and Legal Actions

Sharma mentioned that Bhole Baba had permission for only 80,000 people but gathered around 2 lakh, fleeing the scene during the incident. An FIR has been lodged against the event organizers, and a search for Bhole Baba is ongoing. The Uttar Pradesh police have launched a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district.

Stampede Details

The stampede resulted in 121 deaths and 35 injuries. It occurred as devotees rushed to seek blessings from Bhole Baba, leading to chaos and people being crushed. The injured were taken to the hospital by police and security personnel present at the site.
