Russian President Putin Sends Condolences to India Over Hathras Stampede

New Delhi, India – Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a heartfelt condolence message to President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a tragic stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. The incident, which occurred at a religious event on Tuesday, claimed the lives of 121 people and injured 35 others.

The Russian Embassy in India shared the message on X, stating, “President of Russia Vladimir Putin sent a condolence message to President of India Droupadi Murmu & Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi over the tragic stampede in Uttar Pradesh.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also expressed his sorrow, saying, “Deeply distressed by the tragic loss of lives in a stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh. Sincere condolences to the bereaved families. Pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.”

Following the incident, police conducted a search operation at Ram Kutir Charitable Trust in Mainpuri district for ‘Bhole Baba,’ who led the event. Deputy SP Sunil Kumar reported that Baba ji was not found on the premises. Aligarh Inspector General Shalabh Mathur confirmed that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem and that an FIR will be registered against several people, including the event organizers, for exceeding the permitted number of attendees.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.
