Floods in Assam: 38 Lives Lost and Over 11 Lakh People Affected

Floods in Assam have claimed 38 lives, with three recent deaths in Tinsukia and Dhemaji districts. Over 11.34 lakh people across 28 districts are affected, with Lakhimpur and Darrang being the worst hit. The Brahmaputra River and several others are flowing above danger levels.

Affected Districts

The affected districts include Kamrup, Tamulpur, Chirang, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Dibrugarh, Karimganj, Udalguri, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Sonitpur, Golaghat, Hojai, Darrang, Charaideo, Nalbari, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Karbi Anglong, Goalpara, Dhemaji, Majuli, Tinsukia, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Cachar, and Kamrup (M).

Impact on People and Animals

A total of 165319 people have been affected in Lakhimpur district, followed by 147143 in Darrang, 106480 in Golaghat, and 101888 in Dhemaji. The floods have also impacted 832099 animals.

Relief and Rescue Efforts

The administration has set up 489 relief camps and distribution centres, sheltering nearly 2.87 lakh people. Rescue teams have saved nearly 2900 people. Essential supplies like rice, dal, salt, and mustard oil have been distributed among the flood-affected people.

Damage to Infrastructure

Flood waters have submerged 42476.18 hectares of crop area and damaged 74 roads, 6 bridges, and 14 embankments. Five embankments have been breached.
