IMD Scientist Naresh Kumar Warns of Heavy Rain in Northeast India

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for several northeastern states, predicting extremely heavy rainfall over the next two days. IMD scientist Naresh Kumar confirmed that the monsoon is currently very active, with significant rain expected in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Red Alerts Issued

Naresh Kumar stated, “We are expecting extremely heavy rainfall for the next two days, especially in Arunachal Pradesh.” Red alerts have been issued for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Rainfall Across India

Besides the northeastern region, light to moderate rainfall is expected in other parts of the country, including central and northwest India. Some areas may experience heavy rain.

Monsoon Progress

Kumar mentioned that the monsoon has advanced over most parts of West Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Conditions are favorable for further advancement in the next 2-3 days.

Weather in Delhi

The IMD has predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate rain and gusty winds in the National Capital Region (NCR) on Sunday afternoon. Delhi recently experienced its highest rainfall in 88 years, with 228 mm recorded in 24 hours.

Heavy Rain in North India

IMD scientist Soma Sen said heavy rainfall is expected in Delhi and other North Indian states over the next two days. An orange alert has been issued for Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and East Rajasthan.

Widespread Rainfall and Thunderstorms

The IMD has issued alerts for widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions in India. Intense rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected in many areas, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Meghalaya.

Light to moderate rainfall is also anticipated in Odisha, Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, Kerala, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Lakshadweep, and the Nicobar Islands.
